Dazed & Confused

Fiji and I both saw this movie back in ’94 when it first came out and we spent the next eight years sitting around talking about how much we hated it. Then we realized that this movie has Kevin Smith movie alumni Joey Lauren Adams (Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) and Ben Affleck (all of those, plus Dogma and Jersey Girl). So, being the Kevin Smith fanatics that we are, we had to see it again even though it has absolutely nothing to do with him. Apparently we just weren’t mature enough in our teens to understand how brilliant this movie is, because now it’s one of our favorites.

This is where I’d normally describe a movie’s plot, but even after repeated viewings I still say this movie lacks in that area. It goes pretty much like this: last day of school, party, party cancelled, beer bust later at the moon tower. Also they drink a lot and spank freshman boys. What more could you want from a movie?

Quentin Tarantino counts this movie among his 20 favorites, in addition to saying it may be the “greatest hangout movie ever made." I’m inclined to agree. Turn it on, start it anywhere, stop it anywhere, it’s all good. For a little extra fun, try taking a drink each time Mitch Kramer touches his nose. If you’re still standing after the scene outside the pool hall, well, you might have a drinking problem.
